There are several types of inside sales jobs available to qualified sales professionals and beginner sales persons. They may be employed in any industry sectors, in one of several sales categories.

For instance, they may work for a manufacturer, wholesale distributor, retail store, or service provider. Most of these jobs will not involve much traveling, unlike external sales jobs. Instead, you usually work out of a central company location where you call upon prospective customers within a specific geographical area. They are the ones who first introduce the business concept while they set up appointments for external sales teams who are responsible for closing the deal.

The main objective of a person employed in inside sales jobs is to set up as many appointments as possible and to make as many actual contacts as possible. Their secondary objective is to set up as many appointments as possible that lead to sales closures for the external salespeople.

Necessary qualifications

Entry-level inside sales jobs require a minimum bachelor or associate degree in any discipline and some prior sales experience, though not always mandatory. However, upper level sales positions require an education of at least two years, but up to five years is ideal.

Other skills required by salespeople regardless of industry or position include the following: Proper telephone etiquette and appearance of professionalism, Strong communication and presentation skills, Self-Motivation and Cooperativeness ( to be able to work independently as well as a to be able to work as part of a team), Basic computer skills, Ability to work hard and smart in achieving sales targets.

Salary and benefits

Salaries of persons working in this field often range from $31,000 to $120,000 per year. Furthermore, periodic pay increases are offered to the most motivated individuals who stay committed to their jobs and make a large enough profit.

Inside sales jobs are among the best options for fresh graduates, provided you have the skills and personality required to be a competent sales professional. With 2-3 years of experience under your belt, it may be time for you to thinking about growing and moving into different kinds of sales positions.

You might even end up taking on management positions within a span of 10 to 12 years. This gives entry-level salespeople that they are not caught in a “dead end” job.
