Hotel Management Jobs

Since restaurants and hotels often have a high turnover rate, usually plenty of hotel management jobs are open. It takes a special person to fill this position, but there are quite a few openings at this time all over the United States, and perhaps all over the world.

On one job site alone several hundred open positions are listed for those who are looking for employment in cities such as Washington, D.C.; Denver, Colorado; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Miami, Florida; New Buffalo Michigan; Bethesda Maryland; North Kansas Missouri; Miami Beach, Florida; and Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Several other U.S. locations as well as international destinations are advertising open positions as well.

How to Apply

If you want to work at a certain hotel, you are advised to apply as soon as you see the listing. Although there are plenty of job openings, not all places would be desire work environments and you do not want to miss out on the right opportunity. Usually the most prestigious hotel management jobs fill up the fastest.

If you are interested in applying for one of these positions, it is advised that you follow the application instructions given by the employer. These are usually posting within the job listing or in a newspaper or internet publication ad. If no instructions are given perhaps a short visit in person or a short phone call will be acceptable.

It is important to remember, however, that if a company or recruitment agency specifies “no phone calls” or “no e-mails” or apply in person only” then that is how you should apply. Furthermore, if all you see is a P.O. Box in which you are instructed to send a resume it may be best to just send the resume and not bother the employer.

On the other hand, if your references are exceptional and your work history is spotless you might consider looking up the company and then calling them. If you have what it is that the company who just gives a P.O. Box is looking for they may be possibly impressed that you took the initiative to seek them out.

As you fill out your application, you also will need to prepare a resume. This document should be very well-organized and free from spelling and grammatical errors. Remember, you are applying for a management position and you want to appear professional at all costs.

Variations in Titles

Opportunities as a hotel manager might include those of the following titles, assistant manager, shift supervisor, head housekeeper, hotel restaurant manager, nigh auditor (desk clerk, sometimes supervisor of the desk clerk), or sales coordinator. As you can see, management positions are found in every hotel department.

Perhaps you may even find employment as an executive manager who is responsible for an entire hotel or even an entire hotel chain. The more prestigious of a position you apply for the more competitive it will be. Therefore, you need to do your best to show yourself in the best possible light before, during and after the interview.
